Memory and Brain Health

We all want to maintain optimum brain health throughout our lives. Otherwise, dementia, decreased cognitive functioning, and impaired recall skills may be on the horizon. Fortunately, there are simple lifestyles and dietary changes that you can incorporate into your day-to-day routine that can help support brain health.

Ongoing research is being performed to investigate the cause of Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists have not been able to isolate the cause of Alzheimer’s; however they point to genetics, lifestyle factors and environmental toxins as possible causative factors of the early onset of this disease.

The formation of amyloid plaques in the brain is a component of Alzheimer’s disease. The plaques are composed of a peptide, or string of amino acids which normally protects against oxidative stress, which contributes to the presence of cell-damaging free radicals. Protecting against the development of plaques, including strengthening the immune system to trigger antibodies to prevent or clear plaques from the brain is a possible intervention against Alzheimer’s.

The sleep hormone, melatonin has been shown to inhibit the formation of plaques and may serve to prevent Alzheimer’s, though it cannot reverse the existence of existing plaques. Research has shown that when there are adequate amounts of melatonin available earlier in life, it may act to prevent Alzheimer’s from developing.

Melatonin is needed to produce proper sleep and excessive wakefulness reduces the amount of the hormone, possible leading to plaque development. Research further shows that melatonin has the ability to correct slight elevations in cholesterol, another risk factor for plaque development.

It is possible to supply melatonin through supplementation if your body is not creating enough melatonin on its own. To enhance the levels of melatonin in your body, sleeping in a very dark room without ambient light or creating conditions of twilight for several hours before going to bed will set the stage for increased production.

Don’t forget the importance of fish oil, providing your body with DHA and EPA and other essential fatty acids to support brain health. Protecting your brain health and memory.

Rooted in Nature

Rooted in Nature

Throughout our abundant plant kingdom many species and varieties have been identified with nutritional potential (phytonutrients) and important therapeutic value to human and animal life, while others are still considered for exploration or yet to be discovered. So far herbal research and traditional folkways has revealed marvelous value in many plants from their berries, vegetables, herbs, roots, bark and blooms, containing an immense variety of phytochemicals, compounds and discovered isolates.

Folk healing, otherwise known as regional or community traditions in medicine, includes these phytonutrients, but traditionally recognized as simply the outcome or attribute from a particular plant preparation. The laboratory of days past started in the garden or the wild and continued into the kitchen or community by way of teas, extractions, poultices, syrups, baths etc. Without fully comprehending the generations and decades of hard work, the exploration and study it took to compile this valuable medicinal history, including how to properly grow and harvest (or gather) the correct plant, find and utilize its medicinal part(s), prepare a useful medicine for effectiveness, and then to know how to re-administer therapeutically is all valuable cultural history to preserve and share. This medicinal exploration entailed great experience, practice, physiological study and collaboration, as it does today.

More recent medicinal discoveries and research usually happen in a chemical laboratory (pharmaceutical) to create an imitation of nature, to mimic a plant’s medicinal activity, while never fully captured since hundreds of phytochemicals and protective nutrients are involved and have important relations to one another, and many are not fully recognized yet. In fact many times nothing natural is left available for human consumption or medicinal use-it’s all stripped away, isolated or imitated to become a patented medicine to allow maximum potency and profitability. In consideration, there are plants with toxic compounds and may need to be avoided, but that is why the expert, education, traditional knowledge and research all have a valuable place. However with many medicinal plants, the unknown phytochemical(s) still play a potential role in effectiveness, delivery, and protection to the consumer or to build the plant’s nutritional and medicinal value.

Keeping medicine rooted in nature goes beyond current laboratory modalities and methodology. The herbalist today, researchers and doctors of holistic/naturopathic medicine are still very interested in keeping the plants’ therapeutic value alive and available. This is especially true because of plant’s synergy, its role and benefits greater than its individual parts, working beyond isolates and synthetics.  Synergy and holistic perspective may release more potential than ever thought possible in medicinal options. Botanical microscopic constituents build into unbelievable resources we already know: oils, fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, minerals…and the unknown is still yet to be discovered and better understood. Thank you to all the researchers, scientists, practitioners and herbalists that continue to study in this naturalistic vein.

The addition of plant extracts including Lutein, Bilberry, Zeaxanthin and more make Eye Formula™ by Vita Logic the premier supplement for anyone wishing to treat or prevent eye disease.

Elderly At Risk of Memory Trouble After Surgery

A Duke University study reports memory loss after surgery is alarmingly common. In all age groups, memory loss occurs in almost 41% and will last up to 3 months. But for those over 60, they are more than twice as likely to have it persist longer than 3 months. It is believed to be a direct result of less oxygen to the brain and anesthesia.

Vita Logic Memory Formula™ is an excellent supplement containing several nutrients backed by science and proven to improve oxygenation of the brain and therefore decrease mental decline with aging. Memory Formula™ by Vita Logic has no known side effects and helps with better clarity, ability to stay focused and on task, as well as improvement in memory.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Prevents Heart Attacks And Death

A recent study demonstrated supplementation with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) was associated with a 43% reduced risk of death from all causes and 16% reduced risk of cardiovascular events.

Omega-3 fatty acids are abundant in cold water fish. Authorities warn against eating fish regularly due to contamination with mercury and other environmental pollutants. Daily supplementation with a quality fish oil prevents Heart Attacks and premature death.

Vita Logic Fish Oil™ is a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA. It is derived from Nordic cold water fish which represents the purest of fish oil supplements. B-12 Deficient?

Vitamin B-12 plays a critical role in the nervous system and production of red blood cells. Vitamin B-12 is water soluble. The B vitamins are also known as the brain vitamins and are critical for metabolism, weight loss and stress management. Symptoms of a Vitamin B-12 deficiency include: dementia, depression, anemia, nervous system abnormalities, and increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

Daily supplementation with Vitamin B-12 improves memory and concentration, mood swings, weight loss, cold hands and feet, neuropathy, sex drive, energy, stamina and endurance.

Vita Logic Blast B-12™ contains 5000 mcg of B-12 in one easy to swallow pill. For years it was believed that B-12 could only be taken by injection, or in small dots under the tongue. Blast B-12™ by Vita Logic delivers B-12 at a level that is comparable to receiving a B-12 injection.

Stress Shortens Life

Social or chronic stress causes disease and premature death. Researchers evaluated 124 individuals ages 54 to 70. Mouth swabs were taken before and after a stressful situation to evaluate biomarkers of inflammation known to be associated with heart disease, blood clots, diabetes and stroke.

In addition, the researchers evaluated the impact of stress on the brain via MRI brain scans. Researchers concluded by mouth swab and brain scan, that people who respond to stress in a negative fashion negatively impact their Immune System leading to disease and premature death.

Vita Logic Stressed Out™ is an excellent supplement for people experiencing stress. Stressed Out™ contains all of the B Vitamins in adequate levels to help people think more clearly, and reduce cravings commonly associated with stress. Stressed Out™ by Vita Logic is a safe, natural supplement for everyone under stress.

Lower Thyroid Activity Tied To Weight Gain

Middle-aged adults whose thyroid gland is mildly underactive, but still functioning in the normal range, may be more prone to weight gain. The recent study published in Archives of Internal Medicine studies more than 2400 middle-aged adults.

The TSH level is the measurement of how hard the thyroid is working. In general, the higher the TSH, the more sluggish the thyroid. Women with the highest TSH gained an average of 9.3 pounds and men with the highest TSH gained 4.2 pounds.

Clearly individuals who test “normal” on thyroid blood work could still benefit from nourishing their thyroid to assist in weight loss thru an improved metabolism.

Nourishing the thyroid assists in weight control, energy, memory, sex drive, circulation, bowel regularity, heart health and more.

Vita Logic Thyroid Formula™ is an excellent supplement that nourishes and supports the thyroid gland without stimulating it. It provides the thyroid with the nutrients necessary for it to function at a more optimum level. Symptoms of an underactive thyroid include weight gain, hair loss, hair thinning, constipation, depression, mood swings, irritability and inability to concentrate. Thyroid Formula™ by Vita Logic can safely be taken even by people with normal thyroid, but in cases of an underactive or overactive thyroid it provides essential nutritional support. It contains no hormones and can be taken in conjunction with prescription thyroid medication.

Adrenal Hormone Prevents Age Related Hearing Loss

Aldosterone is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands. The adrenal glands are active in time of stress. People who experience chronic stress often report adrenal fatigue or adrenal exhaustion.

It has long been noted that as people age, they often experience hearing loss. In addition, potassium levels in the inner ear decrease as people age. It is believed that this is a common cause of age related hearing loss.

Aldosterone produced by the adrenal glands helps control the delicate balance of potassium to sodium. It just makes sense that with age, the adrenal glands produce less aldosterone, less regulation of sodium and potassium occurs and hearing loss may result.

This research from Rochester, New York demonstrated that the more aldosterone present in the blood stream of the older individuals, the better their hearing. It is reasonable to conclude that supporting the adrenal glands as one ages will help reduce the incidences of age related hearing loss.

Vita Logic Adrenal Formula™ is a doctor recommended, safe, natural supplement that provides nourishment for the adrenal glands. Adrenal Formula™ by Vita Logic contains four types of ginseng to provide the adrenal glands with the necessary nutrients needed for the proper production and regulation of adrenal hormones. This is especially important when under stress and as we age.

Vaccinated By Your Child

You never thought that the joy of parenthood would include being vaccinated by your child. But it’s true.  In a study of 795 healthy adults between ages 18-55 that were exposed to a virus that causes the common cold, researchers discovered that non-parents were 52% more likely than parents to develop a cold after exposure. This vaccine-type effect experienced by parents increased with the number of children the subject has. The parents’ resistance to the cold was not related to any previous exposure to the virus.  Experts believe a psychological benefit of parenthood was at play. Being a parent may impart a more positive attitude about having a cold and in turn can boost the body’s immune function and help fight infections.

If you need other ideas to boost your immune system to ward off colds, the flu or to maintain healthy immune functioning, try one or more of the following products is to incorporate probiotics, the good bacteria, into your diet through foods like yogurt, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut or through supplementation.  Probiotics are always your first line of defense for a healthy immune system.  Research has indicated that 70% of immune functioning lies within the gut which is populated by billions of good bacteria.  They improve digestion, keep populations of adverse bacteria and yeast at bay and manufacture key nutrients.

Immune Formula by Vita Logic Vitamins provides a combination if nutrients and herbs specifically formulated for immune suppressed individuals.  This blend includes research supported potent antioxidants and immune enhancers that have been shown to optimize the immune system.

Cold-C with Echinacea is a blend of immune enhancing nutrients of zinc, Vitamin C, and bioflavonoids.  The addition of herbs like Echinacea, which has been shown to cut cold incidence and duration and elderberry, which may have a measurable effect in treating the flu, alleviating allergies, and boosting overall respiratory health makes this a complete formula.

With these recommendations, your immune system will be performing optimally and you will not have to worry about using those sick days.

A Healthy Mouth is Essential for a Healthy Body

A Healthy Mouth is Essential for a Healthy Body

According to the American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA), eighty percent of the U.S. population has some form of periodontal gum disease. Gum disease is one of the main causes of tooth loss in adults and has also been linked to life-threatening diseases such as oral cancer, heart disease, diabetes and respiratory ailments. Microorganisms (bacteria) from oral infections can enter the blood stream or airways and travel to other parts of the body, increasing the risk for developing health problems that wouldn’t seem at first glance to be related to oral health.

Proper oral care is important to help reduce the risk of disease and can extend lifespan. The American Dental Association recommends the following guidelines:

1) Brush your teeth at least twice a day (including your gums and tongue). Use a soft-bristled toothbrush that fits your mouth comfortably. Always rinse your toothbrush after brushing. Store your toothbrush in an upright position and allow it to air dry until using it again. Don’t routinely cover toothbrushes or store them in closed containers, which can encourage the growth of bacteria. It is recommended to replace your toothbrush every three to four months.

2) Floss between your teeth daily. Flossing removed the plaque between teeth that the toothbrush cannot reach.

3) Visit your dentist for regular cleanings twice a year. Additionally, there are other things we can do to maintain healthy teeth and gums:

A) Be aware of nutrition and how certain foods can affect your teeth. Soda’s and sugary snacks, energy drinks, and fruit juices, can all wear away tooth enamel. Acidic foods and drinks such as lemons, pickles, salad dressing and wine can also cause dental erosion.

B) Consider using a natural toothpaste. Many of the well-known, common brands of toothpaste contain unhealthy ingredients or are too abrasive to teeth enamel.

C) Try a healthy chewing gum to keep teeth clean throughout the day.

There are many things we can do to reduce our risk of disease, and one of those is to be vigilant about keeping a healthy mouth. Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, being conscious about the products we consume orally and getting regular dental cleanings are the best prevention against gum disease.

Duke and the Doctor Interview with IP6
IP-6…The Cancer Fighter!

IP-6…The Cancer Fighter!

IP-6 may sound like an elite force, battling the “bad guys” overseas and preserving our freedom.  This vitamin-like substance doesn’t tote automatic weapons and move clandestinely through the night keeping us safe and sound.  But it does protect us with the same vigor inside our bodies!

IP-6 or inositol hexaphosphate is found naturally in animals and in many plants, such as whole grains, nuts and legumes.  Researchers have been studying the effects of IP-6 as a preventative and treatment for various forms of cancer for years, including prostate cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer and certain blood cancers.  As such, researcher and professor of pathology at the Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Abulkalam M. Shamsuddin, MD, PhD, has published a book on this potential cancer-killing compound entitled, IP-6, Nature’s Revolutionary Cancer-Fighter, touting its promise in cancer prevention and treatment.  Dr. Shamsuddin has been diligently studying the processes of cancer formation, cancer prevention and treatment since 1975.

According to Dr. Shamsuddin’s research, IP-6 helps to treat and prevent cancer by slowing the production of cancer cells.  Likewise, in the instance of colon cancer, IP-6 binds to particular minerals, decreasing risks for developing this type of cancer.  IP-6 is also a powerful antioxidant, fighting free radicals that can result in damaging cell mutations.  Further, this supplement is used to boost immune function, thereby treating anemia, preventing heart disease and kidney stones.

Inositol hexaphosphate (IP-6, phytic acid, or phytate) is a naturally occurring polyphosphorylated carbohydrate, readily available in foods such as cereal grains, beans, brown rice, corn, sesame seeds, wheat bran, and similar high-fiber food products.  It assists in the metabolism of insulin and calcium, bone marrow metabolism and aids in transferring fat from the liver to other parts of the body.  The prevailing belief among researchers is that IP-6 works as an effective antioxidant throughout the system, protecting and limiting irregular cell growth that can lead to mutated and resulting cancerous cells.

Mobilize and deploy your own cancer-fighting team with IP-6 supplements today and reduce your risks of developing life-threatening forms of this insidious enemy of the body.
